Mandala art | 30+ Mandala art ideas | Easy steps for beginners

Art is one of many ways to relax one's mind. It reduces stress and helps focus. As much as we love binge-watching our favourite shows, movies, YouTube videos, scrolling through Instagram...we all need some off-screen activities. Zentangle art can definitely be one of those. It is basically filling up a drawing(outline) with patterns. Unlike doodling it does take up some quality time. You don't need specific art supplies. You can get started with pen, pencil and paper.

STEPS TO DRAW ZENTANGLE ART

  1. Draw an outline

Find an outline or draw by yourself. Outline/Template is basically drawing. If you want to draw parrot zentangle art, then you first have to draw a parrot. Not realistic or too much detail oriented just a simple drawing. If you can draw from imagination that's great if not  you can find a lot of outlines online. Start with simple ones like flower, cup, butterfly etc. Draw this with pencil to avoid any mistake.

    2. Make sections

Try to make moderate amount of sections. When it comes to patterns, it's better not be repetitive. Therefore, if you make too many sections, you will need a lot of different patterns to fill it and the end artwork looks very intricate which is a good thing but initially I suggest making less or moderate amount of section. Once you start making zentangle art and get used to it you can go for more sections. Another factor that helps in deciding the number of section is the size of outline art itself. Like this small cupcake requires less section where as a vase requires more sections.

3. Patterns

Zentangle is all about patterns. There are lot of patterns available online even pattern sheets ad books are available. Choose what's best for the particular zentangle art you are drawing. Here are some of my patterns.

You can always take it up a notch by using color pens, paint, crayon, doodle and more. This is optional. Traditionally, zentangle art is done with a black pen on white paper.
